Legislative Framework
The Gambling (gaming and betting) Control Commission of Trinidad and Tobago (GCCTT) was established by an Act of Parliament, The Gambling (Gaming and Betting) Control Act No. 8 of 2021, assented into law on August 11, 2021.
The Commission has definitive authority to govern the operations of the gambling industry in a manner that will redound to the benefit of the industry and Trinidad and Tobago.
Prior to this current legislation, gambling in Trinidad and Tobago was governed by the Gambling and Betting Act, Chap. 11:49, Act No. 22 of 1963, the Registration of Clubs Act, Chap. 21:01 and the Liquor Licences Act Chap. 84:10. However, these Acts are unable to address the expansive modern gambling industry, which has experienced significant technological advancement.
